The counter stain guide: coffee, grease, grass and wine

Cold water first, never the dryer until it’s gone, and a different fix for every stain. The four we see most at the counter.

Theo Banks, attendant

Most stains are fixable if you do not put the piece in a hot dryer first. Heat sets almost everything.

Coffee and tea

Rinse from the back with cold water, rub in a drop of dish soap and wash warm.

Grease and oil

Cover with dish soap, let it sit for ten minutes and wash in the warmest water the label allows.

Grass and red wine

Grass needs an enzyme stain spray. Red wine needs cold water right away, then an oxygen booster in the wash.
